There were 122 administrative arrests and 20 judicial arrests, according to a count communicated around 1:00 a.m. Monday. Last year at the same time, police had made 74 arrests.
“The counter for interventions is at 226 between 6 p.m. and midnight,” adds the Brussels police. “This concerns interventions as usual and other special ones due to New Year’s Eve. Last year, there were 386 interventions.”

Concerning the revelers who went to the city center, “there were a lot of people, in total up to 100,000 people”, according to police estimates. “Around midnight, 55,000 people gathered to watch the fireworks. In addition, 30,000 people attended the FCKNYE at Brussels Expo,” the police added.
She adds that the order banning fireworks was “strictly” observed by the police.
According to a firefighter count, three people were injured by pyrotechnic devices.

Besides that, the Brussels firefighters were also on alert. An initial count at 12:30 a.m. Monday reported 19 cars on fire, around ten fires on electric scooters and bikes, and five interventions for scooters on fire. “We also recorded three injured by fireworks, a municipal agent, a teenager injured in the eye and a seven-year-old child injured in the hand,” confirmed Walter Derieuw in Belga.
