The twelve strokes of midnight had barely struck, the people of Arlon continued to celebrate the arrival of the new year 2024. In restaurants, with family or with friends in their decorated living rooms or, for the most wild, by continuing to dance in the marquee next to the multipurpose hall, few have escaped the deep-rooted tradition.
The same evening, more calmly, on the second floor of the Vivalia hospital in the capital, the maternity ward was activated. A little Milo came out of his mother’s belly at 1:12 a.m. to take the title of first baby born in Arlon in 2024. Another party was able to start to celebrate the little champion. “Milo was expected on January 2,” explains Chloé Bourian, a happy mother, who admires her newborn with tenderness and love, eyes fixed on those of his father, whom he is getting to know. He decided to arrived a day earlier and that suits us very well. I had decided not to request an epidural, but at one point the pain was such that I asked for it. The pain subsided, the arrival of Milo was then a real moment of happiness.”
Lilian, the dad, has a big smile on his face, staring at his baby: “I wouldn’t have wanted to miss this birth with my wife for anything in the world. December will be hard from now on with Saint-Nicolas, Christmas and Milo’s birthday right away. But that’s a good thing, it’s the month when we receive our end-of-year bonuses.”
I followed my gynecologist
Chloé Bourian and Lilian Libouton are almost no longer Luxembourgers. “My wife is from Bouillon, I am from Paliseul,” explains the overjoyed dad. “But we are building in Bièvre which is administratively in Namurois.”
Chloé works in Arlon at the Chemins de Fer, Lilian is a primary school teacher. “Milo is already a little star, he is the first of a new generation. His two great-grandfathers, his great-grandmother, his grandparents… everyone wanted to see him today,” rejoices Chloe. All that remained was to immortalize the event in the traditional photo. Milo, a charming, wide-awake little boy, only moderately appreciated having to leave his dad’s arms and caresses for those of his mom. But his few protests lasted only a few moments. CVH.
A day without a birth at Libramont hospital
At 6 p.m. this Monday, January 1, there were no births at Libramont hospital. There is therefore no 2024 newborn in the Center-Ardenne yet. “It’s true that it’s quite rare,” says a nurse. The evening also promises to be calm since nothing urgent is planned. We are used to several daily births here in Libramont, so this day without is particularly exceptional”.
The future newborns therefore remained warm and comfortable at the start of the new year. Enough to give nurses and gynecologists a little respite, for a few hours… Th.Léo.
Noa Lebichot, first baby from our province to be born at Marche hospital.

The staff of the Marche-en-Famenne maternity ward hardly had time to celebrate the transition to the new year. Of course, the midwives toasted, but in the delivery room. To first welcome the very first baby of the year, born in our province, but whose parents live in Namur. The 12 strokes of midnight had barely sounded when, at 12:03 a.m., Charles Gillet showed the tip of his face. To the great happiness of course of his parents, Dorothée Mars and Maxime Gillet, originally from Eprave (Rochefort). “The birth was scheduled for December 28, so we stayed at home Sunday evening, knowing that it was imminent,” confides the mother. “The birth went very well. Charles weighs 2.98 kg and measures 51.2 centimeters. He has an older brother, Théo, 19 years old, and an older sister, Maud, 17 years old.”
Barely a little more than 2 hours later, at 2:22 a.m., a second baby was already born at the Marche maternity ward. Noa Lebichot (photo) is therefore the second Luxembourg baby of the year 2024 and is the delight of her parents: Laura Goblet and Damien Lebichot, from Bertrix. B.G.
