In many places, the new year started more quietly than before the corona pandemic. In Berlin, all twelve people injured in the explosion had to be taken to clinics for treatment, as the fire brigade announced on New Year’s morning. According to the fire brigade, the youngest injured is an eleven-year-old boy.

In Stuttgart, around midnight at the central Schlossplatz, clashes broke out between party-goers and the police. Some aggressive party-goers harassed the officials and pelted them with firecrackers. The police said they used batons and pepper spray once morest the crowd. One police officer suffered a bang and two others were slightly injured.

In Germany, however, it tended to remain largely calm: “Here and there there were a few firecrackers, here and there a little brawl.
