The Swedish-American Tokyo Olympic gold medalist held the world record until now with 6.23 from the Diamond League in Eugene, a performance he achieved last September. Today, Saturday (20/4) in the city of Xiamen, China, Armand (Mondo) Duplantis, in the third event of the day, outdid himself to improve his own world record by one centimeter, in the first attempt, in his first appearance in an open track event for this year.
Armand Duplantis broke the pole vault world record with 6.24 meters.

“It was the first time I raced in China and I’m happy to achieve something special,” said Duplantis after his new success.
Duplantis is also the current world indoor champion, having won the gold medal about a month ago in Glasgow, with Emmanuel Karalis taking the bronze medal.
