Once once more, a wolf would have been seen in Flemish Brabant, said Jan Loos of Welkom Wolf on Wednesday. This would therefore be the third report in two weeks. However, it is not yet certain that the third animal is really a wolf: Thursday morning, Jan Loos will carry out an investigation in search of traces.
A wolf spotted just 30 kilometers from Brussels
On Tuesday evening, Welcome Wolf received a report from a woman who saw a wolf between Neervelp and Bierbeek. “It might be a wolf, but it might not be.”, explains Loos. “We are going out tomorrow (Thursday, editor’s note) to look for traces. But if it’s a wolf, it’s already the third we’ve seen in less than two weeks in Flemish Brabant.”
On February 7, several reports were received of people seeing a wolf in Schriek, Keerbergen and Haacht. On the weekend of February 4 and 5, wolf tracks were also found in Lovenjoel and Lubbeek. According to Jan Loos, these are always wandering wolves, looking for a partner and a place to settle. As Flemish Brabant has few large expanses of nature, he considers it unlikely, if not impossible, that these animals will remain in this province. “If the newly spotted animal is really a wolf, it has long since moved to Wallonia”, he says.
