Launched last August, the new app WhatsApp for Mac finally it was available for download at Mac App Storeafter months “confined” on the messenger’s official website.
Developed to run natively on machines equipped with chips from the Apple Silicon family, the app appears to run on the same binary as the iPhone version and, apparently, has completely replaced the old WhatsApp Desktop in the Apple app store, as it does not can be found more there.

As we mentioned previously, the new app makes better use of Macs’ larger screens, supports video calls with up to 8 participants and audio calls with up to 32 participants, and also lets you share files stored on your machine by dragging them into the conversation .
The new WhatsApp for Mac requires at least macOS Big Sur 11 to work and can also be downloaded via the messenger’s official website. It’s still unclear what will happen to WhatsApp Desktop users with the launch of the new app, after all, those who still use it don’t receive any type of update notification or anything like that — not to mention that the old app no longer exists in the store.
