New virus spreading lately? The Saudi Ministry of Health clarifies

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)– The Saudi Ministry of Health commented on the recent spread of a new virus.

And the Saudi Ministry of Health confirmed Friday, through its official account on Twitter, “that the matter is not true, explaining that there is a large group of respiratory viruses that cause colds, including a group that currently exists, which is similar to the symptoms of seasonal influenza, but of lower severity.

In another tweet, the Saudi Ministry of Health indicated that more than 20 types of viruses that cause colds and common colds are circulating during this period.

Among the most important of these viruses are:

  • Rhinovirus (Rhino):

Most common, this virus usually spreads in the spring and fall.

  • Human parainfluenza virus:

It causes symptoms very similar to those of the flu. There are 4 species of this virus, and one of them spreads at the beginning of the summer, and is present throughout the year.

  • Respiratory syncytial virus:

This virus usually infects younger people and may cause symptoms similar to those of asthma. It is present in most months of the year, but its incidence increases globally in the fall.

The ministry added that there is no cure for colds, but analgesic and antipyretic drugs can be taken following consulting a doctor.
