In April 2022, the first reports of mysterious cases of hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver, in children appeared. Most of the cases were in Great Britain, but there were also a few confirmed cases in Vienna. The mysterious thing regarding it: None of the otherwise typical hepatitis viruses A, B, C, D and E or other known causes of liver inflammation might be found in the little patients. In July, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported a good 1,000 sick children in 35 countries. Around 50 of the patients, some of whom were very young, required a liver transplant, and at least 22 died.
