New video introduces the dark open world and its possibilities

A video game world you wouldn’t want to live in? Then Sanctuary would be out Diablo 4 are certainly high up, because there are all kinds of dangers here and it doesn’t necessarily look like a dream vacation.

This is also proven by Blizzard’s latest developer video, in which the current Sanctuary is presented. The action role-playing game’s story takes place several decades following the events of Diablo 3 and shows that basically little has changed for the better. Countless demons and monsters still roam the world and humanity itself has only partially recovered from Malthael’s attacks.

Diablo 4: Sanctuary will be open world

So it’s probably no surprise that Sanctuary is a dark and gory place in the sequel as well. Nevertheless, there is one crucial change that also has an impact on the game: Diablo 4 is now an open-world game, which consists of a total of five large zones:

  • I develop: A desert with sprawling dunes somewhat reminiscent of Act 2 from Diablo 3 or Diablo 2 remind
  • Scosglen: Was inspired by the Scottish Highlands
  • Shattered Peaks: According to the developers, they are similar to the Carpathians, i.e. a largely Eastern European mountain range
  • Trockensteppe: Also very sandy, but more oriented towards a classic desert highland
  • Hawezar: The swamp region of southern Sanctuary, which is by no means inviting

Despite the sometimes quite different biomes, the world of Sanctuary in Diablo 4 should make geological sense. So you won’t stumble from one area to another, but there are intermediate areas. For example, if you head to Hawezar from the Shattered Peaks, you will see many waterfalls along the way that result from the snowmelt, eventually emptying into the swamps of the southern region.

Themed Dungeons & Monsters

What applies to the upper world should also be reflected in the dungeons of Diablo 4. As a result, the caves and underground areas will be thematically related to their respective zones and will not seem entirely illogical. This includes the developers as well as the monsters that have either adapted to their environment or can only be found exclusively in one region.

In addition, the developers promise that you can experience a lot of content in Diablo 4 apart from the main story and side missions. You can explore independently and uncover random events or take part in a fight once morest a world boss.

Those who want to get an impression of the current Sanctuary will soon have the opportunity to do so. There are two beta weekends for Diablo 4 in Marchwhich allows you to freely explore at least one region of the game.
