A new adaptation of Warner Bros. Pictures’ natural disaster film, Tornados, has already been released in Argentine theaters. This production updates the classic 1996 film, Twister, and features an outstanding cast and direction by Minari Oscar nominee Lee Isaac Chung.
The plot of Tornados centers on former storm chaser Kate Cooper, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones (known for her role in Normal People). Cooper, now a researcher in New York, returns to the open plains, drawn by an innovative storm-tracking system. There she reconnects with reckless social media adventurer Tyler Owens, played by Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick and Everyone But You).

The plot unfolds as storm season intensifies. “As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never before seen will be unleashed, and Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the path of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives,” describes the synopsis provided by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Tornados is produced by industry heavyweights Oscar nominee Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley. Both are known for their work on blockbuster franchises like Jurassic and Indiana Jones. The script is by Mark L. Smith, writer of Best Picture nominee The Revenant.
The film is set once morest a modern backdrop, addressing the impact of climate change and the human fascination with harnessing the forces of nature. According to the production, Tornados addresses climate change and its effects with a more serious and realistic perspective, placing the film in a context where extreme weather is a global concern.

The original 1996 film, Twister, had a similar premise, revolving around tornado chasers attempting to deploy a research device. Led by Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, the characters faced multiple tornadoes with the goal of improving early warning systems. The film was a hit, grossing more than $494 million and underscoring the public’s fascination with extreme weather events and advanced special effects.
Unlike its predecessor, Tornados is not being marketed directly as a sequel. The new installment stands out for its thematic and technological evolution, with advanced special effects and a strong focus on narrative centered on climate change.
