Two new vaccines for infants once morest respiratory syncytial virus are expected to come onto the Belgian market next year.

The virus is known by the abbreviation RSV.

On the one hand it is a vaccine that is injected during pregnancy and on the other hand it is an antibody that is given to infants.

The Supreme Health Council recommends both vaccinations and emphasizes that both are safe and effective.

RSV primarily causes lower respiratory tract infections. Most infections occur between October and March. Infants are particularly often affected. Some become seriously ill and therefore have to go to hospital.

The vaccinations are not mandatory. According to the current status, they are not reimbursed by health insurance companies.
