Club 3D has announced 3 new cables capable of supporting up to 240 W of peak power offering new possibilities to manufacturers.
USB-C is gradually establishing itself as the universal standard. Used both for the transfer of data, video or load, Europe is even studying the possibility of imposing it on all manufacturers of small electronic equipment.
However, USB-C suffered from the relatively low power it might transmit to devices, 100 W, which might hinder its adoption in certain cases such as charging the most demanding laptops.
Club 3D is a game changer
With its new products, Club 3D is the first manufacturer to offer cables that meet the updated USB Type-C 2.1 standard which increases the power to be increased from 100 to 240 W (48 volts, 5 amps).
The top of the range, the CAC-1576 is the only one to support this power without performance degradation. It maintains a transfer rate of 40 Gb/s thanks to the Thunderbolt 3 protocol. As for video, it allows the passage of an 8K 60 Hz stream.
The CAC-1575, on the other hand, offers lower performance, allowing “only” 20 Gb/s in USB4 data transfer and only supporting 4 K 60 Hz in video. Finally, the CAC-1573, certainly the least expensive of the three, only allows USB 2.0 support and a transfer limited to 480 Mb/s.
A good sign for USB-C
If you are considering purchasing one of these cables, know that there is no need to rush at this time. Indeed, if the first cables supporting 240 W came out (but no retailer seems to have any in stock at the moment), this is not yet the case for chargers.
According to Tom’s Hardware, the most powerful charger offered by Club 3D delivers only 132 W, not allowing the full capacity of the cable to be exploited. However, now that they are available, chargers should soon follow.
An evolution that seems to bode well for USB Type-C which, in addition to establishing itself in the world of small electronic devices, opens up the field of possibilities a little more.
