CHENNAI: Christopher W. Hodges has taken over as the new United States Consul General in Chennai. After taking office, he responded that he considered it an honor to represent the United States in the South. Their activities reflect the indigenous and regional dynamism that nurtures the broader bilateral relationship between the two countries. These include our rich ties in trade and education, and our two countries’ enthusiastic cooperation in space. Consul General Hodges said that it is an honor to be able to work for the American community within the scope of the Chennai Consulate and consular services that strengthen the relationship between the people of the two countries.
“The fact that the US-India relationship is one of the people and governments of both countries illustrates the breadth of our efforts. We look forward to strengthening ties across the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Consulate, as well as the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Puducherry,” he added.
Earlier in the US Christopher Hodges was working as a senior adviser in the government’s Office of the Coordinator for Afghan Relocation Efforts (CARE). Prior to that, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Assistance Coordination and Press and Public Diplomacy in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs and as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of Israeli-Palestinian Affairs. His last overseas assignment before coming to Chennai was at the US Embassy in Jerusalem. He served as Assistant Deputy Chief of Mission and Chief of Palestine Affairs Unit at the Embassy.
He joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 2012 and served as a public affairs officer in Jerusalem, Hanoi, Vietnam, and Accra, Ghana, and as deputy director for Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein in the Office of Central European Affairs. He has also served in Suva, Fiji and Frankfurt, Germany.
