New twist in the case who has been shaking up the media lately. Iron, one of the two dogs who had participated in the accident which had cost the life of little Talya, 8 years old at the time of the events, is again at risk of euthanasia. While theoptimism was in order on the side of the shelter which has been taking care of Iron for almost two years after the judge’s decision which had declared that the seizure of the animal was illegal, the reality is harsh since this Friday, the police came to the premises of the SPA to recover the dog. “The La Louvière police showed up at the shelter in the middle of the afternoon on Friday to enforce an order from the Mayor of La Louvière aimed at returning the amstaff to Talya’s mother and euthanizing her” , communicated the SPA La Louvière. “We did not even have the right to properly read this decree which did not contain the elements related to the positive behavioral report of 2021 and 2023.”

The day after the tragedy, Jacques Gobert had indeed issued an order which demanded the euthanasia of the surviving dogs of Talya’s mother, in any case of the mastiff who had perhaps participated in it. “This decree says that the mother of little Talya, convicted Tuesday of manslaughter, sentenced to suspended prison, can recover “her dog, IRON” to have it euthanized. Once again, the authorities return a dog to Mrs. Masset. In 2019, in a previous case of abuse, they returned 5 dogs, with the purpose we know.
A fatality that the SPA did not accept. “Today, therefore, it was a question of euthanizing Iron directly, without giving the possibility to our volunteers, to our team, to even say goodbye to him. Finally the SPA La Louvière, helped by lawyers, opposed this restitution and is in progress for this opposition. Several volunteers and sympathizers spontaneously gathered in the courtyard of the SPA La Louvière and several associations offered us their support, including the Brigitte Bardot Foundation.
At the time of writing these lines, we have not been able to reach Jacques Gobert to ask him for an explanation of the new order issued.
