New penalties have been imposed in India’s capital. The purpose of implementing the new laws is to abolish the colonial era laws. Under the new laws, tougher penalties have been imposed for perpetrators of crimes once morest women and children and for terrorists.
The new laws repealed the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act. Many general offenses will also be covered under the new laws.
Action will also be taken on setting up stalls anywhere on the roads, selling goods by putting up banners and creating problems for pedestrians. The first case has been filed once morest a shopkeeper in a prominent commercial area of Delhi who blocked a large part of the footpath outside the shop making it difficult for people to pass.
Political and social analysts say that controlling Delhi has become extremely difficult due to the population increasing at an extraordinary rate. The population of Delhi is more than 32 million. Corruption is very high due to which laws are not followed. A large number of people from all over the country and especially from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana come to Delhi and settle here. As a result, the pressure on infrastructure is increasing and the battle for economic opportunities has become dangerous.
