If the technical control points to check on your car are already numerous, know that this has recently increased. Indeed, motorists will have to check certain additional criteria on their vehicle from now on. This addition mainly concerns 2 specific features that we are going to explain to you!

Motorists: Two more criteria since May 20!

The first additional criterion does not concern the operation of your vehicle itself. Indeed, it relates above all to the energy consumed by motorists when they drive. This is obviously related to OBFCM ou On Board Fuel Consumption Monitoring !

The OBFCM, imposed in Europe since 2021, aims to collect information on the energy consumption of a vehicle. Whether the car is electric or not, all motorists are concerned. It is therefore now one of the checkpoints of the technical control!

For now, it’s the vehicles that have to perform a check every year who are most affected. This story specifically targets cars such as taxis or ambulances. In the case of private motorists, the verification will be carried out within 2 years, that is to say in 2025!

Be that as it may, not all motorists are obliged to share information on their consumption with the OBFCM. Indeed, they benefit from protection thanks to the general data protection regulation. However, this is not the only point in force since May 20!

A checkpoint on emergency calls!

A few years ago, we set up the eCall to help European motorists. This new system can be very practical especially in case of traffic accidents. Indeed, it is a simple but effective system that can save lives!

The principle of eCall is simple, it is a device that you can activate in an emergency. The system will allow motorists to contact 112 as soon as possible in the event of an accident. This system is therefore now included in the criteria for the vehicle checkpoint!

From now on, motorists must therefore pass an examination in relation to the eCall system of their vehicles.

This feature accompanying cars since 2019 works properly during the check. The aim is to ensure that you will be able to quickly contact the European emergency call via your car!

This checkpoint criterion concerning eCall only concerns individuals. They seem easy to respect, but this is bad news for many motorists. Indeed, these new points imply many more loads for drivers!

New criteria that will be expensive for motorists!

These two new criteria that we are adding to the list of control points will indeed have a great impact. This new regulation will moreover increase the price on the invoice of many motorists. Indeed, the additional costs will be numerous and will not go unnoticed!

With the OBFMC as well as the eCall, we are now at 136 points of verification. They are there for a good cause, but that may not please all motorists. Despite everything, you have to comply with the rules and ensure that your vehicle meets the criteria!
