The Chamber approved Thursday followingnoon, on the occasion of an unusual plenary session organized between the end-of-year holidays, the new tax regime for the assets of non-profit organizations, at the origin of many turmoil in recent weeks. .
The new system replaces the linear tax rate of 0.17% per year which was applied until now with progressive taxation. Thus, non-profit organizations which hold assets of less than 50,000 euros (compared to 25,000 euros today) will no longer pay any tax in the future. Between 50,000 and 250,000 euros of assets, the annual tax will be reduced to 0.15%. But between 250,000 euros and 500,000 euros of assets, the levy will now be increased to 0.30%. And even 0.45% beyond half a million euros of assets.
Following lively debates within the majority as well as with the opposition in recent weeks, a series of exemptions have however been granted, in particular for the benefit of non-profit organizations in the healthcare, education, sport, culture, archives and even animal shelters.
Supported by the Minister of Finance, Vincent Van Peteghem (CD&V), the bill was approved by the majority on Thursday. The opposition N-VA and Vlaams Belang voted once morest, as did DéFI. The Engagés and the PTB, for their part, abstained.
