New Support System for Higher Education – Kawahara Design and Art College

This is a national support system that supports the “learning” of motivated students so that they do not have to give up on continuing their studies for financial reasons. By using this system, you can significantly reduce the financial burden.
Our school met the requirements set by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and was certified by the government.

●Support content

● Exemption or reduction of tuition fees and admission fees (tuition fee reduction, etc.)
● Provision of grant-type scholarships

Eligibility for payment

Students from households exempt from resident tax or similar households
– Students who are motivated to learn (not judged solely on their high school grades, but on their motivation to learn based on reports, etc.)
If your income is below a certain amount, even if you are not a household exempt from resident tax, the amount of support will be determined based on three levels of household income.

▼For a family of four: parents, the child (a high school student), and a junior high school student

1st Division 2nd Division 3rd DivisionStudents from households exempt from resident tax
Estimated annual income: Approximately 2.7 million yen Students from households equivalent to those exempt from resident tax

Estimated annual income: Approximately 3.8 million yen

[new]Creation of the 4th category

A new fourth category will be created to expand the scope of recipients of support under the current academic support system.
It was decided to expand the scope of support to include middle-class families with many children and those in the science, engineering, and agricultural fields.
Our school is a science, engineering and agricultural school, and the Department of Interior and Architectural Design is included. We will provide more information as soon as it is announced. (※From the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Higher Education Bureau, Student Support Division, Monday, April 17, 2023)

Support Eligibility
● Annual household income up to 6 million yen.
● Support for large families: For families with three or more dependent children
●Support for science, engineering, and agriculture: Faculties and departments that span academic fields are also eligible if the fields of the degree they award include science, engineering, and agriculture.

What is a large family? A household with three or more dependent children is considered a large family. Therefore, siblings who graduated from university and got a job and are no longer dependents, or who graduated from high school and got a job and are no longer dependents, are not counted as large families. What are private science, engineering, and agriculture schools? The new higher education support system (grant-type scholarships + tuition fee reductions) requires that students meet certain requirements and advance to a university or vocational school that is certified by the national or local government. The “private science, engineering, and agriculture” field, which is treated as the fourth category, is certified by “faculty/department” rather than by school. Kawahara Design and Art College is certified as an eligible institution. (Link below to PDF, page 54, our school listed)

● Support content for the 4th category

Large families can receive 1/4 of both grant-type scholarships and tuition fee reductions. Students at private science, engineering, and agricultural universities are not eligible for grant-type scholarships, and can only receive tuition fee reductions to cover the difference between the amount paid by students in the humanities and sciences. If a large family is attending a private science, engineering, or agricultural university, the support provided for large families will apply.
