According to recent reports, Ubisoft is working on a new “Assassin’s Creed” project, which is said to be in development under the code name “Rift”. If the insiders’ statements correspond to the facts, then this time the developers of Ubisoft are once more guided by the stealth roots of the long-lived franchise.
After various rumors regarding “Assassin’s Creed: Infinity” have been making the rounds in recent months, unconfirmed reports reached us today, in which there is talk of another “Assassin’s Creed” title, which is currently in development at Ubisoft.
This is reported by both the usually well-connected Bloomberg author Jason Schreier and the English-speaking colleagues of Eurogamer. As it is said, the new “Assassin’s Creed” project is currently being created under the code title “Rift” and will see itself as a smaller title, which is scheduled for release at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023. Bloomberg and Eurogamer would also like to have learned the first details regarding the playful implementation.
A return to the series’ stealth roots?
Accordingly, “Rift” will distance itself from the open-world and action role-playing elements of the last “Assassin’s Creed” titles and will once more be more oriented to the stealth roots of the series. The main character will be the Basim known from “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla”, while the Iraqi metropolis Baghdad has been suggested as a possible location. However, according to Eurogamer, this information comes from an early version of the game. Therefore, it is conceivable that the setting has changed once more in the further course of development.
More news regarding Assassin’s Creed:
According to Bloomberg and Eurogamer, “Assassin’s Creed: Rift” started as an extension to “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla”. Only at a later date, those responsible for Ubisoft should have decided to publish the title separately in the form of a smaller project. To what extent the information on “Rift” corresponds to the facts and for which platforms the title appears, it remains to be seen. When asked, Ubisoft did not want to comment on the rumors.
Instead, Ubisoft simply states that the company “does not comment on rumors or speculation, as they would do a disservice to the development teams and the community”.
