The car may be under social attack, but the criticism does not extend to motorhomes and caravans. On the contrary: the reporting is generally positive, and the demand has exceeded all expectations. This is now reflected in a real shortage of skilled workers, which the industry now wants to counteract with a new offer for apprentices. As of today, there is a new specialization in “Caravan and Motorhome Technology” for bodywork and vehicle construction mechanics.
The three-and-a-half-year apprenticeship is intended to produce “all-round talents”. In addition to the basics of body and vehicle construction, knowledge regarding the production and assembly of vehicle-specific components is to be imparted – from prototype construction to the maintenance and repair of caravans and mobile homes.
Daniel Onggowinarso, Managing Director of the industry association CIVD, promotes the new specialization: “Entering the caravanning industry is now more worthwhile than ever, because the need for specialists is great and the career prospects have never been better. This not only applies to young people, but also to career changers.” Perhaps one or the other caravan enthusiast will turn their hobby into a career. (awm)
