It looks like Sony may be closer to releasing its next console than gamers thought. With the PlayStation 5 launching in late 2020, the company might be preparing to hit a new area of the market with a bang. According to journalist Tom Henderson, who works for Insider Gaming, Sony is currently developing a new portable console, which will be heavily tied to the PS5.
Following a path different from that taken by the portable consoles PSP and PS Vita, the new Sony device will not have its own library of games, but will depend on the PlayStation 5 titles.
Sony’s new portable console
According to information revealed by Tom Henderson, a very popular insider for disclosing accurate news, Sony’s new portable console is codenamed Q Lite and will take advantage of Remote Play to access PS5 games over the internet.
With Sony’s portable console, players will be able to remotely check out both games from their library of titles purchased on PS5 and titles available on PS Plus Extra/Deluxe. According to the information, games will not be stored on the Q Lite, which will require constant internet connection.
Similar to DualSense
Supporting adaptive 1080p resolution streaming at 60 FPS, Sony’s new portable console is also expected to feature DualSense features, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Also, the Q Lite should have a similar model to the controller. The Q Lite will feature an 8-inch LCD touchscreen.
For now, Sony has not yet officially commented on a new device. However, it is important to remember that the company has recently increased its investment in Remote Play marketing, which may indicate that the rumors will come true.
