New shot at the tribe in North Jutland’s “sushi-city”: – I know people love it

Opposite the town’s inn is an old petrol station, where you can still fill up with petrol at the push – or kill time with a car wash.

The tank’s premises have long since been taken out of operation, but that does not mean that there is a gaping void.

Recently, a self-service shop with flowers opened its doors, and the Thai grill Wendy’s is also located on the site.

Now even more life has come to the register Aalborgvej 88 in Hjørring: Nikki He has just opened her new sushi place, called Nikki Sushi.

Sushi capital?

Nikki He originates from China, but love led her to Hjørring, where she lives with her husband Mikkel Sohn, who works at the State Administration, and her son Mathias, who attends Bagterp School.

She has worked in various restaurants in recent years – but now she has found the courage to live as an independent sushi chef.

– I know that people love it in Hjørring, she says of the Japanese dish.

And there seems to be something about the talk: It is inherently difficult to find figures on how much sushi is eaten per person. inhabitants in Hjørring, but there are not that few places where you can get the Japanese dish served after all.

We mention in turn: Yoko Sushi on Sct. Olai Plads, Kamii at Springvandspladsen, Gaja in Jernbanegade, Running Sushi at Vendelbopladsen and Sushimania’s shop-in-shop in Meny – just as it is possible to get sushi at the slightly larger eateries Min Restaurant in Bispensgade and Mongolian at Springvandspladsen.

Good thing AI Japan closed in Jernbanegade last year in Hjørring – it is only found in Aalborg now – but still, maybe it is just before that Hjørring with its 25,000 inhabitants can be named the sushi capital of North Jutland?

If you don’t like sushi, Nikki Hee also has the popular Poke Bowls on the menu.

Learn to make sushi

But she also has something completely different on the shelves, which you don’t find very many other places in the industry:

For several years, she has held sushi workshops around North Jutland, where the participants learn how to cook sushi rice, cut fish, roll sushi with bamboo mats – and how to carve the dish.

– It’s great to see how people have fun with each other when they’re making sushi, says Nikki He, who will continue her course business alongside the opening of Nikki Sushi.

Among other things, she has previously held a workshop with her son’s class – and soon some of the man’s colleagues at Arsenalvej will also learn how to cut the Japanese dish.

Nikki He also does sushi workshops, here she is in action in her son’s class at Bagterpskolen.

The starting point for Nikki Sushi is that it mainly functions as a take away place – with its location on Ålborgvej there is also a lot of passing traffic – but it will also be possible to grab some sushi inside the place itself, if that is what you want.
