New Schlumberger plant in Burgenland is delayed

With a delay of four years, the sparkling wine manufacturer Schlumberger will set up a new production facility in Müllendorf in Burgenland from June. At the end of 2025, the production and bottling of sparkling wine should take place there, Schlumberger announced on Friday. The start of construction was originally planned for 2019, including relocation in 2021. However, complaints from residents and the corona crisis caused a considerable delay.

Schlumberger had already announced its intentions for a new production facility in 2017, especially since the location in Vienna was becoming increasingly too small. The headquarters and company management will remain in Vienna-Heiligenstadt and the location in Bad Vöslau will also remain with all employees, said Schlumberger Managing Director Benedikt Zacherl on Friday, according to a statement. Jobs would be created in Burgenland for 35 employees who are currently still employed in Vienna.

The company is investing a mid-double-digit million amount in the 12-hectare new building project, according to earlier information around 70 million euros. Initially, only the production facility is to be built there, but the property also offers the possibility for expansion measures, such as an in-house logistics warehouse or the expansion of production areas and office space, according to the company.
