Riyadh: The construction work of the new road between Jeddah and Makkah has been completed. The General Authority for Roads has now started implementing the fourth and final phase of the project.
The road starts from Hayy Al-Sushah Junction near Jeddah Airport and goes to the 4th Ring Road in Makkah. This direct road from Jeddah to Makkah will greatly assist the objectives of the Hajj and Umrah sector. It will make the journey of pilgrims and visitors from Jeddah to Makkah and vice versa easier. It will be possible to reach Makkah in less time than the current Al Haramain road.
The road authority said that the construction of the project works has been completed 70 percent. The total length of the road is 73 km with four tracks in each direction. The total length of the completed first three phases is 53 km.
The length of the fourth phase is 20 km. The new road aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the transport sector, facilitate the movement of Umrah pilgrims and pilgrims, reduce traffic congestion on Al Haramain Road, reduce the average travel time between Jeddah and Makkah in the north, and connect King Abdulaziz Airport with Makkah.
