Amadou Ba, member of Pastef, was unexpectedly arrested just after his participation in a television program on the SEN TV channel. According to information provided by the channel host, the search section of the Colobane gendarmerie arrived at the SEN TV premises aboard an L200 vehicle.
Without prior warning, they took him away while he tried to contact his lawyers and family. This rapid and sudden intervention prompted the channel to resume broadcasting after the end of the program to inform the public of recent events. Me Ciré Clédor Ly, who legally represents Mr. Ba and who is also Ousmane Sonko’s lawyer, declared: “I have just been informed that Amadou Ba, member of the board of the Pastef party, has just been arrested by the research section. The policy of persecution and attempted dismantling of a political organization by the State of Senegal continues. Everyone will go there before February 25, 2024.”

The news of this arrest was communicated unexpectedly by the SEN TV host at the end of the program in which Amadou Ba was participating. She described the intervention of the gendarmerie in these terms: “We were informed that the search section of the Colobane gendarmerie arrived in front of the channel’s premises in an L200 vehicle. They then took on board our guest who had come to participate in our show ‘Ndoumbélane’. It was Amadou BA who was arrested. He tried to contact his lawyers and his family before being arrested. This is why we are back on the air to inform you.”
The host, visibly concerned by the circumstances of this arrest, added: “We would like to denounce this act which we do not understand. Being a guest on a show and then getting arrested is unheard of. We do not know if it was because of his statements during the program that he was apprehended, but the manner in which the arrest was carried out concerns us.”
