In ‘A House Full’, viewers have of course already gotten to know the Jelies family well, but in their new book ‘De Jelies’ we also get to see a different side of the family. In an interview with ‘Vrouw’, Janneke discusses striking revelations from the book.
“That period ruined a lot”
For example, Janneke appears not to have had any contact with her family for a long time, because they did not agree with her marriage to Johan. He turned out to be quite an outspoken type and had built up a certain reputation. “He was very bravura and had a name in the village,” Janneke explains. “He didn’t fit the picture my parents had for me.”
For example, the fact that Johan had lived together before was looked down upon. Janneke didn’t care about this and tied the knot with him. “The fact that my parents were not at the wedding still hurts a lot to this day,” she reflects.
Fortunately, things worked out later. “Not much later, when my father turned out to be terminally ill, we were able to talk about it. My mother is now very proud of Johan and how we are doing together, and I am sure my father would have been too.”
Yet the early days of her relationship with Johan and the criticism she received from her family have left their mark. Janneke eventually fell into a deep depression. “That period ruined a lot, for example, I never finished my training as a caregiver.” Although she is very disappointed by this, she can conclude that the difficult period has brought her something beautiful.
“I came out stronger,” she says. “That is also what we want to give people with our book: whatever you experience, do not look back, but take the positive out of it and move on. As husband and wife, always keep fighting for each other. The love you feel for each other is really not gone, although sometimes you have to go through something to find each other again.”
And that they have found each other again can be concluded from the fact that they have embarked on a great emigration adventure together:
Janneke Jelies: A Love Story Like No Other
Alright, everyone, gather ‘round! Today, we’re diving into the delightful chaos that is the Jelies family, fresh from RTL Boulevard’s exclusive scoop on their latest book, ‘De Jelies.’ Now, if you thought their television antics were a riot, wait until you hear about Janneke’s sobering revelations in her chat with ‘Vrouw.’ Spoiler alert: family drama like this could fuel a season finale!
“That period ruined a lot”
Now, it seems Janneke had a bit of a rocky road when it came to matrimony—kind of like trying to navigate a family BBQ when the last hot dog was just consumed. Her marriage to Johan wasn’t just a hall pass into marital bliss; it was met with all the approval of a cat at a dog show! Apparently, her parents had a rather picturesque view of what a son-in-law should be. And Johan? Well, he didn’t quite fit the bill. Imagine showing up to a stylish dinner wearing flip-flops and Hawaiian shorts while everyone else is in tuxedos. That was Johan! Loud, proud, and a wee bit “bravura.” Trust me … it’s not an easy road when your family has other plans for you.
But here’s where it gets more dramatic than a soap opera! Janneke’s parents weren’t just a little miffed—they didn’t even show up at the wedding! Ouch! That one stings harder than stepping on a Lego in the middle of the night. Janneke reflects on this absence and admits it still smarts. Although, really, who could blame them when they saw Johan’s social media presence? The man could scare off a pack of wolves with his overly chirpy posts!
But let’s not get bogged down in the negativity of family drama. At the end of the day, there’s light at the end of every tunnel! After Johan went through a bit of reputation rehabilitating faster than a celebrity recovering from a scandal, the familial tides changed when Janneke’s father fell terminally ill. It was the wake-up call everyone needed! After some heart-to-heart chats that could rival any emotional scene from a feel-good movie, reconciliation happened. Nowadays, Janneke reports her mother seats Johan at the family table with pride. Isn’t that just sweet? Of course, I’m sure Johan celebrates by putting his feet up and allowing his loud personality to fill the room like a foghorn at a tea party.
However, not everything was daisies and sunshine! Those initial tough times left Janneke with a battle scar in the form of a deep depression. She shares that it ‘ruined a lot’, including the dreams of completing her training as a caregiver. And it’s true; sometimes, the life we envision can feel as attainable as a unicorn visiting a dentist. But here’s where the plot twist comes in, folks! Despite the heartbreak, Janneke emerged stronger from the storm, and isn’t that just the hallmark of a great life lesson?
In her own words, “I came out stronger,” and ah, that’s the spirit! The couple now wants to spread this message loud and proud as they embark on new adventures. Their mantra? Don’t dwell on past hardships, but instead, seize the positive and sprint towards the future. So, while Johan may have once been a point of contention, he’s now the glue that holds their family together—albeit probably a bit too loud for his own good!
And if you think they’re done weaving stories, what’s this? An emigration adventure on the horizon? Talk about adding another chapter into the misadventures of the Jelies family! If you’re hoping for a sequel, I’d recommend getting some popcorn—this could be a blockbuster!
In conclusion, through all the ups and downs, the Jelies family has navigated a storm that would make even the bravest sailor quake in his boots. And if you thought you had family drama, just wait until you dive into the antics of Janneke and Johan. Remember, the love you feel for each other is like a stubborn stain—it may take some effort, but every bit of it is worth it in the end!
In ‘A House Full’, audiences have undoubtedly become familiar with the Jelies family, yet their freshly released book ‘De Jelies’ reveals previously undiscovered facets of their lives. In a candid interview with ‘Vrouw’, Janneke shares intriguing insights and unexpected revelations from the pages of the book.
“That period ruined a lot”
Janneke candidly disclosed that she had been estranged from her family for a protracted period due to their disapproval of her marriage to Johan. He was characterized as an outspoken individual with a notable reputation, which clashed with her parents’ expectations. “He was very bravura and had a name in the village,” Janneke elaborates, revealing how Johan’s past living arrangements were judged harshly by her family. Despite their objections, Janneke devotedly chose to marry him. “The fact that my parents were not at the wedding still hurts a lot to this day,” she reflects with palpable emotion.
Fortunately, time fostered reconciliation. “Not much later, when my father turned out to be terminally ill, we were able to talk about it,” Janneke recalls, mentioning how her mother’s perspective shifted, resulting in pride for Johan and their life together. She expressed confidence that her late father would have felt the same way, had circumstances allowed.
Nonetheless, the trials of the early days with Johan and the familial criticism took a profound toll on Janneke. She experienced a significant depression as a result. “That period ruined a lot; for example, I never finished my training as a caregiver.” Although these reflections bear a weight of disappointment, she recognizes that the struggles also yielded something beautiful.
“I came out stronger,” she asserts, expressing her hope that their book inspires others to embrace resilience amid adversity. “Whatever you experience, do not look back, but take the positive out of it and move on. As husband and wife, always keep fighting for each other. The love you feel for each other is really not gone, although sometimes you have to go through something to find each other again.”
And indeed, their renewed commitment to each other is evident, especially now that they have embarked on an exciting emigration adventure together:

**Interview with Janneke Jelies: Love, Family Drama, and New Beginnings**
**Interviewer:** Good afternoon, Janneke! Thank you for joining us today. Your book, ‘De Jelies,’ has captured so many hearts and stirred quite the buzz. Can you share what motivated you to reveal such personal aspects of your life in the book?
**Janneke:** Thank you for having me! It’s been a whirlwind, for sure. When we were writing ‘De Jelies,’ we wanted to be honest about our journey, the challenges we faced, and how those experiences shaped who we are today. It was important for me to share my story—especially the parts about my estrangement from my family. I hope others can find strength in our struggles.
**Interviewer:** Speaking of struggles, you mentioned in your interview with ‘Vrouw’ that you faced significant issues with your family’s disapproval of Johan. How did that affect your relationship?
**Janneke:** It was tough. My parents had a very specific image of who I should marry, and Johan didn’t fit that mold at all. He was a bit loud and brash, and my parents didn’t appreciate that, to say the least. Their absence at our wedding hurt deeply. It left a mark that took a long time to heal.
**Interviewer:** That does sound painful. You also shared that this period of family conflict contributed to a deep depression. How did you find your way through that challenging time?
**Janneke:** It was a dark time, and I lost sight of my dreams, including my training as a caregiver. But eventually, I realized I had to take control of my narrative. Therapy helped immensely, and Johan was my rock. Through it all, I learned that sometimes facing adversity can make you even stronger, and I’m grateful that I came out on the other side.
**Interviewer:** It’s inspiring that you could transform such a painful experience into a source of strength. You mentioned reconciliation with your family when your father fell ill. Can you describe that turning point?
**Janneke:** Absolutely. It was heartbreaking to see my father in that condition, but it also opened the door for honest conversations. We discussed our feelings and past misunderstandings, and slowly, we began to rebuild our relationship. It’s a reminder that even in the toughest times, love can pave the way for healing. Now, my mother is proud of Johan, and that brings me so much joy.
**Interviewer:** That’s beautiful to hear. And now that you’re on this new chapter in life, what’s next for you and Johan?
**Janneke:** We’re excited about our plans to emigrate! We’re ready to embrace new adventures and challenges together as a family. I think it’s important to keep moving forward and exploring life together. Our experiences have taught us resilience, and we want to inspire others to find that same courage in their lives.
**Interviewer:** It sounds like you and Johan are embarking on an incredible journey! What message do you hope readers take away from your book?
**Janneke:** I want readers to know that life is full of ups and downs, but it’s essential to focus on the positives. Love is a powerful force that can see you through the darkest times. If you keep fighting for each other, you can overcome any obstacle. And remember, like a stubborn stain, love may require some work, but it’s always worth it in the end!
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Janneke! Your story is a testament to strength and resilience. Best of luck on your upcoming adventures, and we can’t wait to see where life takes you next!
**Janneke:** Thank you so much! I appreciate it.
