“Our goal is to provide the widest possible range of services to foreigners coming to Lithuania. We are opening a center where migrants will be able to receive legal, career guidance and psychological counseling, where they will be able to attend various classes and just spend time together,” said Eitvydas Bingelis, head of IOM Lithuania, in a press release.
“This is another space where people could get both information and services or information about needed services and this would facilitate their integration processes in Lithuania,” said Monika Navickienė, Minister of Social Security and Labor, during the opening of the center on Monday.
She added that there are a number of challenges related to integration processes across Europe today
“And it seems to me that we, as Lithuania, can be the state that will have good experiences and practices,” said the minister.
According to Edita Urbanovič, head of the Migration Information Center “Renkuosi Lietuvą”, the need for such a center increased after the war in Ukraine began.
“The essence of that center would be to provide information on a one-stop basis to all foreigners coming to Lithuania in all cases of life,” E. Urbanovič told BNS on Monday.
According to her, the center will provide psychologist consultations, career counselor services, and legal assistance. Mutual aid groups, activities for children, and a senior citizens’ club will also be organized for migrants.
It is planned that up to ten employees will work in the center.
“MICenter” is a center dedicated to migrants and refugees who are looking for a safe haven in Lithuania and intend to integrate into society, and the services provided are aimed at helping to solve complex issues that foreigners face after arriving in Lithuania.
This year, for the first time in the history of the country, the number of foreigners living in Lithuania exceeded 200 thousand, in total more than 203 thousand live in the country. of persons from various foreign countries, mostly Ukrainians, according to the statistics available by the Migration Department.
