The array of nutrients that walnuts are known for can provide tangible benefits for a number of ailments. Among them: diabetes mellitus, diseases of the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems, anemia, asthma and tuberculosis. There is another useful factor that will make you look at the “royal acorn” with interest – weight loss..
People who eat a handful of walnuts daily are less likely to experience high blood pressure and heart pain, according to a new study from the University of Minnesota. They reduce weight, cholesterol and blood sugar levels, joint pain disappears, sleep and memory improve.
Experts came to these conclusions following conducting a scientific study involving 3,300 volunteers aged 25 years and older. A tenth of the volunteers, at the behest of the researchers, ate walnuts every day.
The study, which began in 1985, lasted 30 years. During this time, its participants took tests several times, underwent examinations and filled out special questionnaires. They answered questions regarding diet at the 7th, 20th and 25th years of the experiment.
At the end of the experiment, just like at the beginning, they measured their body mass index, blood pressure, and checked their hearts. They took blood tests so that the doctors might once once more check the level of sugar and cholesterol.
The results showed that volunteers whose diet all these years included “royal acorns,” as Eastern healers called walnuts, had lower blood pressure than volunteers who did not eat them. The researchers were satisfied with cholesterol and blood sugar levels. They noted that the heart of the subjects works rhythmically. And the weight is correct.
Participants in this group did not complain of poor memory, insomnia, or joint pain. As the experts noted, the condition of the volunteers from the other group was slightly worse.
Scientists believe that people who love walnuts owe their success to the unique composition of the plant product. In addition to minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, walnuts contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which has a beneficial effect on the body, according to pronews.gr.
