In terms of new registrations of electric cars in 2021, Austria ranked third behind the Netherlands and Sweden in an EU comparison. In all of Europe Austria took fifth place, here gold went to Norway and silver to Iceland. For comparison: In Austria the proportion was 13.9 percent, in Germany 13.6 percent, in Switzerland 13.1 percent and the EU average 8.9 percent. In the neighboring Czech Republic, it was only 1.2 percent of the total new registrations, calculates the VCÖ.
Norway steps on the gas
According to the Austrian Traffic Club, almost two-thirds of all new cars in Norway are battery-electric cars. “Norway has decided that from 2025 only zero-emission cars should come onto the market. Norway will very likely achieve this goal,” says VCÖ expert Michael Schwendinger.
