New radar software, positive tests in Maroggia | laRegione.ch

An increasingly precise radar, capable of adjusting the limit from time to time depending on what is indicated by the automated signs. This is what was the protagonist, with positive results, of the speed test detections, therefore not subject to fines, carried out by the Cantonal Police in Maroggia on the A2 in a northerly direction starting from 5 July on the basis of a decision shared by the working group with the Federal Roads Office (Ustra).

The tests allowed us to test a latest-generation software, installed on one of the semi-stationary radar devices already in use by the police, which allows us to take into account the variations in the speed indicated by the automated signs. The latter, installed on some sections of the A2 as part of a project conducted on the national road network, allows the automatic regulation of the indicated speed, depending on the traffic flow, from 120, to 100 to 80 kilometers per hour.

The priority requirement was therefore to coordinate radar detection with the automated speed changes of modern road signs: this is to avoid errors in the event of fines to motorists, linked to exceeding the speed limit, on a stretch of road, at a given moment.

The tests, which lasted several weeks, lasted several weeks and had a positive outcome. From now on, the Cantonal Police specifies, specific checks can be carried out. The semi-stationary device will be connected via cables to a camera present on site that allows to “read” the changes in speed and make the changes to the readings through the new software installed in the radar.
