Radars installed along regional roads will soon flash more. As on the motorways, the police will no longer disconnect them or adjust them with tolerance margins higher than the maximum authorized speed, several Flemish newspapers reported on Thursday.
Until last year, these practices were in force on motorways to prevent the competent services from being overwhelmed by the administrative burden represented by too many traffic fines. They have been removed for motorways and will be removed from next year on regional roads, replied the Minister of Justice to a question from MP Wouter Raksin (N-VA).
The FPS Justice confirmed the information. More staff will be needed both in Justice and in the federal police processing centers. A budget was released accordingly. More money should also enter the state coffers since, since the application of the measure on motorways, the number of fines has increased from 4.7 million in 2021 to 6.2 million in 2022.
The technical margin in force to avoid radar measurement errors still applies.
