New Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center Opens in Sassari

New Life Skills Center Opens Doors in Sassari

Sassari, December 5, 2024 – A new chapter opens in mental health care in Sardinia with the inauguration today of a multi-purpose Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center in Viale Mancini. This new space is a collaboration between the Sassari Local Health Authority and various third sector organizations.

A Holistic Approach to Rehabilitation

The opening marks the culmination of work by the Rehabilitation SSD division, established in 2023. The goal is clear: to offer patients a wider range of care options, beyond traditional psychological therapy. This centers around the idea that for successful recovery, a holistic approach must consider not only the mind but also individual abilities and potential.

“The aim,” explains Flavio Sensi, General Director, “was to broaden the scope of mental health care. We envisioned a system that sees the patient as a whole individual, helping them reclaim control over their lives.” This newly established facility is part of that vision.

Announced by Flavio Sensi, alongside Health Director Vito La Spina and Director of Social and Health Services, Annarosa Negri,

the center aims to create opportunities for re-integration into society.

Empowering Patients Through Learning and Engagement

“Rehabilitation is about providing tools and resources for individuals to regain control over their lives,” explains Dr. Anna Maria Ginanneschi, head of the Residential and Semi-residential Rehabilitation Programmes..

“We want to empower our patients by offering paths that foster both cognitive and emotional growth. Collaboration with the third sector has been fundamental to this project. We work together to help our patients develop residual skills, while providing opportunities for social and physical well-being. The goal is to promote self-sufficiency, increase self-confidence and ultimately, encourage a sense of belonging within the community.
