Sony releases a file New PS5 System Software Update Which includes support for 1440p resolution, a new feature for game menus, user experience and social improvements. test for 1440p launched on PS5 in JulyAnd now all PS5 owners will have access to the software update.
The new 1440p option allows PS5 owners to choose this resolution on compatible TVs and monitors. If games fully support 1440p, they will be output natively at that resolution, otherwise 4K games will improve anti-aliasing by increasing the output size up to 1440p. The only downside is that the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) will not be supported at 1440p and will only work in 1080p and 4k resolutions on the PS5.
The new PS5 update also includes a game lists feature, which are basically folders for games. You can create game lists from the main game library, and each list can contain up to 100 games. There is a total limit of 15 game lists, and all disc, digital, and streaming games can be added to the lists.
Sony has also added new social features including the ability to request a friend’s screen share in a group, user profile UX improvements and notifications to help PS5 owners quickly join a game from a chat. You’ll also be able to send stickers and voice messages in group chats now, and easily compare differences between 3D audio and normal stereo settings before switching.
Finally, Sony is also testing improved YouTube voice search on the PS5. You can simply say “Hey PlayStation, find Spider-Man on YouTube” and the relevant results will be displayed. Voice Command Preview is currently only available in English for PS5 owners in the US and UK.
