It’s been a long time since we’ve heard rumors regarding the launch of a new version of the PS5, whether it’s a simplified model with support for an external physical media player, or even a more robust version with more powerful hardware.
Recently, a rumor has emerged that the supposed “PS5 Slim” would be announced at an August eventbut this week, Tom Henderson, a renowned source of rumors in the video game industry, may have brought more details regarding the supposed new version of the console.
On Twitter, the journalist, who was the first to talk regarding the existence of a new PS5 model compatible with a removable disk drive, revealed that this new console model may not be called Slim, coming with slightly different dimensions from the current model, taking into account the prototypes he saw.
Henderson believes that Sony will rate it as an improved model over the original. As previously revealed, it will also replace the current model eventually, as the final units will hit shelves by the end of the year.
I don’t know anything regarding the recent PlayStation Slim rumors and when it will be revealed.
Logically, with a release set for September, a reveal soon makes sense. As for if it will be called the “Slim” or not, I’m inclined to believe it will just be called a PS5 and branded…

While we don’t know what this new PlayStation 5 model will be called and marketed, it seems certain at this point that it really is coming, as Tom Henderson has said many times.
In any case, we must consider the information as a rumor, but it seems that the announcement is getting closer.

the supposed PlayStation 5 Slim was revealed by Microsoft at the beginning of the month in a document present in the troubled Activision Blizzard purchase process. Now, rumors suggest that this console version of the Sony may be released soon.
According to XboxEra podcast co-founder Nick Baker, a new PlayStation event in August will reveal the PS5 Slim to all gamers. Obviously, Sony has not commented on the rumors involving the supposed new version of the console.

The point is that with Microsoft indirectly revealing the new model of the PS5, Sony may have advanced its calendar to officially announce the Slim variant in August. Until recently, rumors pointed to a launch by the end of the year.

Rumors also point out that the supposed PS5 Slim will have a reader and detachable disc with a USB Type-C input that can be connected to the rear of the new console. Production of the current model is also expected to end by the end of the year.
In any case, the arrival of the PS5 Slim may open the way for PS4 owners to migrate to the current generation of the console, given that the expectation is that the new model will reach the market with more affordable prices.
