New program announced that pays $500 to Miami residents (+Requirements)

The City of Miami has opened a new rental assistance program that will provide $500 to eligible seniors over 62 years of age.

The Senior Rental Assistance Program (SRAP) provides up to a maximum of $500 per month for one year to landlords to provide rental assistance to low-income seniors.

For now, the initiative is only available to residents located in District 5 of the City of Miami, which occupies neighborhoods such as Wynwood, Little Haiti, Liberty City, Model City, Overtown and other areas in the Upper East Side.

How to enter the new program in Miami

Those interested in applying for this aid can pick up the forms at Miami City Hall, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. They can also be picked up at the District 5 offices.

Another option for SRAP applicants is to call 311 to verify the addresses of locations where the forms are available.

Who is eligible?

The Miami Senior Rental Assistance Program is funded by federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act.

To be eligible, applicants must have a rental agreement and meet the limited financial means requirement. Household income must be $39,750 or less for one person.

If the household consists of four people, the income must be $56,750. Individuals are advised to first consult the AMI income table for housing assistance in the city of Miami.

Deadline

The program will pay $500 of the senior’s rent to the landlord. The assistance cannot be used to pay back rent.

Individuals residing in public housing or who are beneficiaries of programs such as Plan 8 (Section A, Sec. 202, VASH) are not eligible for Miami’s Senior Rental Assistance Program.

Application forms can be collected by applicants from July 16 to August 5 at the addresses mentioned above.
