As of March 1, 2024, Cuba faces a notable increase in the price of fuel, reaching up to 500%. This article offers you a detailed look at the new prices, the network of service centers in dollars and the payment methods available to face this change.

When announcing it, the first vice minister of the Ministry of Economy and Planning, Mildred Granadillo, explained that the new fuel rates might not be applied on the scheduled date due to a computer attack. For this reason, it was decided to postpone the entry into force of the new prices until the cybersecurity problem is resolved.

The Cuban government argues that the increase in fuel prices seeks to regulate its commercialization.

The Minister of Energy and Mines (MINEM) previously explained that the tourism sector and foreign visitors exchange their currencies at a rate of 120 to 1, while the price of gasoline was 24 to 1. In other words, according to the head of the MINEM, “that person who pays $1.30 USD for gasoline in the world, here pays it at $30.00 CUP,” which represents a significant difference.
