WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris has a perceived edge over former President Donald Trump on several leadership qualities including honesty, according to a poll by AP/NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, though Americans are slightly more likely to trust Trump on the economy and immigration.
Nearly half of Americans said “commitment to democracy” and “discipline” are qualities that best describe Kamala. About 3 in 10 Americans said those qualities best describe Trump.
About 4 in 10 say Kamala is someone who “cares about people like you,” while about 3 in 10 say the same of Trump. About 4 in 10 say “honest” best describes Kamala, and 24% say that quality best describes Trump.
Slabs
The poll suggests Kamala is carrying some of the same baggage that weighed on President Joe Biden before he ended his re-election bid, but she has advantages over Trump when the two are compared.
