New pavilions, more equipment and medicines, axes to improve care for cancer patients

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, stated that his government’s efforts are making progress in improving care for cancer patients in the country, through a plan that aims to improve infrastructure, equipment and medicines.

In this regard, the president stressed that a budget has already been approved to build new pavilions at INCAN, since today a large part of the hospitalization rooms are being used as consulting rooms.

“The idea is to build a whole new wing, like a small hospital within INCAN,” he said.

Another line of action is the equipping of all departments of the country, with an investment of 20 million dollars to consolidate a network of CT scanners at a national level.

Added to this is what was recently announced, on the occasion of the announcement of the recovery of part of the funds allocated to the Covax Mechanism, of the purchase of linear accelerators that will be destined to hospitals in Encarnación and Alto Paraná.

Finally, the president indicated that investment in the purchase of medicines is a line of action that is being worked on hard, since at the beginning of the government period it was discovered that there were a large number of debts that were not accounted for, which prevented the immediate purchase of medicines.

“We are working on putting our accounts in order to plan purchases at a lower price, which is what is currently happening,” the president said.

Regarding complaints about the care received by cancer patients, the president pointed out the need to listen to patients, accept reality and provide them with answers.
