“New Passenger Car Registrations Soar in April 2023, Top 20 Plug-In Hybrid Cars Revealed”

According to monthly figures provided by the organization NGC Data, in April 2023, there were 132,509 registrations of new passenger cars, an increase of 21.88%. By way of comparison, this is more than in April 2022 (108,724 registrations) and a little less than in April 2021 (133,730 registrations).

Between January and April 2023, 553,396 new passenger cars were registered, an increase of 16.73% compared to the same period of 2022 (84 working days).

In terms of engines, while gasoline still occupies first place with 53,475 registrations (+31%), diesel continues its long descent into hell with 13,088 registrations (-11%). In the segment of electrified vehicles, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is the category that is growing the least rapidly with 10,882 vehicles (+6%).

SALES OF NEW PASSENGER PLUG-IN HYBRID CARS IN APRIL 2023

The top 20 rechargeable hybrid cars (PHEV) turns to the Franco-French confrontation with players from the same automotive group, Stellantis. The Citroën C5 Aircross retains its crown with 591 copies (+24%; PDM of 5%), while DS respectively places the DS7 Crossback (475 copies; +34%; PDM of 4%) and the DS4 (472 copies; + 130%; PDM of 4%) on the 2nd and 3rd steps of the podium.

The loser is Peugeot. Thus, the Peugeot 3008 (407 units; -61%; market share of 4%) drops from 2nd to 5th place while the 308 (314 units; -33%; market share of 3%) tumbles from 3rd to 11th place. Peugeot can console itself with the 408, which gains four places, moving from 16th to 12th position, with 304 copies (PDM of 3%). Note that the Stellantis group is the majority in the top 20 with six cars.

This top 20 reveals some good surprises like the BMW X1, which gains 10 places by propelling itself to 9th place (335 copies; +8%; PDM of 3%) and the Hyundai Tucson, which climbs from 10th to 4th place (430 copies; +49%; market share of 4%).

Note the return of the Volkswagen Tiguan (6th; 392 units; +576%; market share of 4%) and the arrival of the Ford Kuga (14th; 256 units; +108%; market share of 2%) while the BMW Serie 5 and Lynk&Co 01 break out of the top 20 this month.
