Baghdad / Nina French newspaper L’Equipe said on Monday that coach Christophe Galtier signed a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain to succeed Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino.
According to the newspaper, Christophe Galtier will be the 31st coach in the history of Paris Saint-Germain, and the seventh since the transfer of the club’s ownership to Qatar, where it is headed by Nasser Al-Khelaifi in 2011.
The newspaper pointed out that Christophe Galtier will succeed Pochettino.
She said that the Argentine coach was sacked last Friday, although there was no official announcement from Paris Saint-Germain.
She explained that Paris Saint-Germain will be the fourth club to coach Galtier, aged 54, following Saint-Etienne, Lille and Nice.
Galtier coached Saint-Etienne between 2009 and 217, during which he led the team in 361 games, then he coached Lille between 2017 and 2021, and led him in 152 games, from which he moved to Nice and coached him 43 games.
Galtier led Saint-Etienne to win the French League Cup (cancelled) in the 2012/2013 season, and led Lille to win the French League title in the 2020/2021 season.
Pochettino, 50, took charge of Paris Saint-Germain in January 2021, succeeding German Thomas Tuchel, but his results in the last season did not convince the club’s management, and the current contract between Paris Saint-Germain and Pochettino expires in June 2023.
Pochettino returned the French League title to Paris Saint-Germain’s coffers, but the team was eliminated from the round of 16 in the Champions League./End 3
