New Orleans Pelicans Rumors: Zion Williamson Transfer Possibility and Draft Plans

2023-06-16 09:22:00

With recent rumors indicating that the Pelicans would like to make a big jump to the Draft (where they have the 14th choice) to potentially select Scoot Henderson in the Top 3, several insiders and executives are wondering if Zion Williamson represents a credible candidate for a transfer. But the New Orleans franchise reportedly has no intention of parting ways with Zion.

“I will be very surprised if Zion Williamson is not in the Pels squad at the start of next season.”

The quotation is signed Adrian Wojnarowski d’ESPN, who usually knows what he’s talking regarding. Same story with Jonathan Givony (ESPN), who said on the Zach Lowe podcast that “the Pelicans will not transfer Zion, or even Brandon Ingram” and that there had been no negotiation with Portland (holder of pick #3) or Charlotte (pick #2).

Pelicans Not Interested In Trading Zion Williamson

This will calm the trade rumors around the Pelicans phenomenon, at a time when they were perhaps stronger than ever. Between the man’s many wounds, doubts regarding his work ethichis XXL contract (194 million dollars over 5 years), the recent miscellaneous events that have ignited Twitter or the very recent departure of Teresa Weatherspoon (assistant to coach Willie Green and very close to Zion), there was indeed enough to ask some questions.

But if the Pelicans don’t want to trade Zion or Brandon Ingram, how do they plan to jump more than ten spots in the Draft? It seems very complicated, even if New Orleans has a lot of capital in terms of picks and promising young players to be able to negotiate something. The Hornets have already indicated they are asking for the moon in exchange for the No. 2 pick, while the Blazers – who are looking for a star to accompany Damian Lillard – are not interested in youngsters with potential.

So yes, we know it, everything is possible in the NBA and we are never safe from an earthquake, especially as the Draft approaches. But logically, Zion should wear the Pelicans jersey next season.
