New Oncology Day Hospital in Encarnación provides 240 chemotherapies per month

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Lazos del Sur Oncology Day Hospital, located in the Bernardino Caballero neighborhood of the city of Encarnación, improved the care service it provides to patients through the new infrastructure that was inaugurated by the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, last May.

The director of the hospital, Dr. Ricardo Pont, reported that 12 patients were treated per day and currently, between 20 and 22, increasing the percentage to 40%, which implies the performance of some 220 or 230 chemotherapy sessions per month and he estimated that they will reach an average of 260 per month by the end of the year.

He stressed that people are received from the south of the Itapúa department and the south of the country, such as in the case of Misiones, Ñeembucú, Alto Paraná, Caazapá and from other places, such as from the Central zone who come because they have families in Itapúa.

On the other hand, the Oncology Day Hospital provides services in the areas of nutrition and psychology for the prompt recovery of patients undergoing treatment.

Dr. Pont also explained that previously they only had 8 chairs and with the increase, the number of visits for chemotherapy sessions was doubled. At this point he highlighted that the number of consultations had increased, as had the number of patients undergoing treatment.

He added that previously the average was 110 to 140 chemo sessions per month and increased to 160 in the last year. Currently, the increase is 80 patients per month, through the increase in chairs. He recalled that the cases rescheduled during the week now arrive, are planned and the patient is already admitted to the service.

The director also estimated that by the end of the year the number of patients receiving chemotherapy treatment could reach 290 beneficiaries.
