Jeddah: Citizens of eight more countries have been granted on-arrival visit visas to Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Tourism has also included Azerbaijan, Albania, Uzbekistan, South Africa, Georgia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Maldives in the list of countries that allow online visit visas.

Citizens of these countries can obtain visas online or on arrival at the country’s airports, seaports or road gates. This move is in line with the growth of the country’s tourism sector as part of ‘Vision 2030’. Along with this, it aims to increase the contribution of tourism sector in GDP from three percent to 10 percent, provide 10 lakh additional employment opportunities and attract 10 crore tourists by 2030. Those who get a visitor visa can visit different parts of the country and perform Umrah.

Visitors on a visit visa must always carry identification. Tourism visa regulations also stipulate that tourists must comply with the country’s general regulations, rules and government directives. The Ministry also stated that those arriving on a visit visa will not be able to perform Hajj or perform Umrah during the Hajj season.

The move to issue online visas to more countries is an extension of the country’s openness efforts aimed at increasing communication with the world. These new decisions are aimed at supporting development and economic diversification, the key goals of Vision 2030. On September 27, 2019, the Ministry of Tourism started issuing visit visas targeting 49 countries.

With the addition of these eight new countries, the number of countries in the list is 57. Last March, the Ministry of Tourism approved the issuance of tourist visas to all those holding residence visas in other Gulf countries. This is part of efforts to provide opportunities for foreigners to visit Saudi Arabia, participate in tourism and entertainment programs, and explore Saudi heritage and tourist attractions. Along with the infrastructure development and expansion of the tourism sector in the country, the Ministry of Tourism intends to expand the online visit visa system to include more countries and regions.
