The Gefco parking lot in the Ghislenghien zone was once once more on fire last night. Twenty vehicles engulfed in flames. The intervention of the firefighters will have lasted 3 hours as the day before. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
As a reminder, an expert was appointed following the fire which had already destroyed several cars on Thursday evening on the Gefco site in Ghislenghien (Ath).
Renault procedure in progress
Friday morning, the fire officer who had led the intervention indicated that the fire did not seem suspicious. The sensors supposed to detect intrusions on the site had not been triggered. The video surveillance images which have already been examined also show that the fire during the night of Thursday to Friday started slowly and in a limited way before spreading to other vehicles. There was no explosion. A total of 42 vehicles were affected in this first fire, which took place on the very day of the launch of the consultation phase of the Renault procedure within the company.
Last December, the management of Gefco announced that it intended to part with 51 of its 170 employees, a measure that affected personnel in the bodywork and mechanical sectors.
As part of the Renault procedure, the union common front and the management of the company were to meet on Thursday to launch the consultation phase. Management had to provide the unions with a precise picture of the two sectors affected by this restructuring. For its part, the union common front was to present a certain number of counter-proposals. Some informed sources report that this meeting did not go well.
