New Netflix series immediately breaks a record

Netflix tries to keep its users engaged with new productions. The streaming service has probably succeeded once more with a series that has just been published.

TECHBOOK already reported last year on the Netflix hit film “Red Notice”, which set a start record. Never before had more users tuned in to a film on the platform in the first 24 hours. Lead actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson proudly announced the success on Twitter.

Now a new, hugely popular series has set its own record. Namely the most successful English-language series on Netflix in a week.

An imposter storms the Netflix charts

At the beginning of July 2021, Netflix launched a new counting and thus charting system for its program and publishes weekly viewing figures. In the second week of February, i.e. from 7.2. until 14.2. you will find the series “Inventing Anna” with around 196 million hours watched in the first place. The series adaptation of the story of the German imposter Anna Sorokin catapulted itself to number 1 of the English-language series! The series reached that value in its first full week.

So far, the third season of “You” has held this with 179 million hours. This is followed by “The Witcher” with 168 million hours.

Series from abroad top everything

The flight of fancy of “Inventing Anna” is quite impressive. Compared to the international competition on Netflix, the series draws the short straw. The South Korean series hit “Squid Game” is also the undisputed number one in the weekly rankings. In its strongest week (09/27/21 to 10/03/21) the series collected 571 million hours!

Second place also comes from South Korea. The zombie series “All of us are dead” was able to accumulate 236 million hours of watchtime in one week in February. That’s still 34 million hours more than the Spanish production “House of Money” in third place.

While everything in the film industry revolves around US productions, it seems to be a little different in the series area. At least currently and at least with the Netflix streaming service. But one thing is clear: in the end, it is always the viewers who benefit from such diversity.
