A building has gradually come out of the ground in the park of the Saint-Luc Institute in recent months.
This weekend, the enclosure comprising both a vast sports hall devoted to secondary education – but which is rented as a multipurpose hall, on request, to external organizations, in the evening and on weekends – and the he higher education design workshop was officially inaugurated.
“Officially” because, during the open house on March 26, the most impatient were already able to lift a corner of the veil…

At first glance, the building does not necessarily seem very high, but it hides its game well: in both spaces, the volumes are nevertheless impressive.
“You might think that the sports hall is not very high, but the facade hides it with a recess at the back”, smiles Xavier Cabo, works manager for the Chaussée de Tournai building, alongside Xavier Dochy. Director at ASBL Institut Saint-Luc.
The finest sleuths will see that La Salle can also be read in a single word. It is indeed a Lasallian establishment, claiming the spirit of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, “since the school belongs to the brothers of the Christian schools”, says Mr. Cabo. ©EdA
The desire to integrate it well
A construction perfectly assimilated to the green space and whose new access alley is only the extension of the historic one located at the back of the building more than a century old.
“We wanted this new building not to denote what existed. Our desire with the architects was to integrate it perfectly into the park”recalls our interlocutor.

A reflection led by the team of the Mouscron architecture firm AAVO.
It was also detailed by its manager, Damien Van Oost, during the inauguration.
According to their titles and qualities, three other speakers intervened in front of the assembly gathered within the sports complex, namely Paul-Olivier Delannois who said he was amazed by the speed of execution of the site, brother Nicolas Capelle on which depends the infrastructure and, finally, Alain Schamps, president of the organizing power.
The speeches were also an opportunity to thank, if not to congratulate, the various trades involved in this project. Enough to appreciate the Screaming origins, but also Tournai, Cominoise for the construction and a Courtraisian for a specific sporting element.

“While of course respecting public contracts, our desire was to bring in a parity mainly from Tournai and Mouscron.”
There are many reasons for this construction.
This project was necessary for two major reasons: “Because the sports hall was too old and became dangerous to the point that it had to be knocked down and because the design space was on Mayor’s heels and our desire was to find the different sections here, on a single site”concludes M. Cabo.
