Three years ago, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Netflix released The Rescue, another decent action movie in the stuntman makes directing debut subgenre. Stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave and Chris Hemsworth created a straightforward and uncomplicated, but spectacular blockbuster regarding an operative who rescues the son of an Indian drug lord who was kidnapped by competitors. The long-awaited sequel promises all the same, but on an enlarged scale: once more the plot is regarding salvation, but this time the whole family of a Georgian drug lord will have to be rescued from trouble. There will be even more action – for example, the audience is waiting for a 20-minute episode filmed in a long take! Only Chris Hemsworth will not change, who in the sequel will be as cool as in the first part.

Joaquin Phoenix as Bo in a still from Bo’s All Fears
“All Fears Bo” is the new film of the people’s favorite Ari Astaire, and also the most expensive project in the history of A24. The film was a box office flop, but the financial failure will surely play into Astaire’s hands in a few years, when the film will be called an underrated masterpiece and a modern classic. All Bo’s Fears really has every chance of becoming a cult movie, because it is an ambitious three-hour mixture of psychological horror and sardonic comedy. In the center of the story is the neurotic Bo (Joaquin Phoenix), who is afraid of the outside world, but still decides to go to visit his mother in his hometown. At every corner, the hero is waiting for real dangers and the embodiment of the wildest and most hidden fears.

Lee Jong Jae in a scene from the movie “The Hunt”
Squid Game star Lee Jong-jae made his directing debut with a bold spy thriller regarding the followingmath of Korea’s division. The beginning of the 1980s is a difficult period in the history of South Korea: protests and terrorist attacks take place in the country every now and then. During the visit of the President of the country to the United States, intelligence understands that a North Korean mole has wound up in the structure, which can make an attempt on the first person of the state. Two employees (Lee Jung-jae and Jung Woo-seong) start an investigation, but they themselves fall under suspicion. The Hunt is a gift for fans of Korean genre films and the history of the country: the film boasts not only a convoluted plot regarding 1980s paranoia, but also emotional twists and surprisingly inventive action with chases and gunfights. In short, another worthy directorial debut from the actor.

Frame from the animated film “Ernest and Celestine: New Adventures”
“Ernest and Celestine: New Adventures” is another film adaptation of Gabrielle Vincent’s children’s fairy tales regarding the travels of unusual friends: a huge bear and a tiny mouse. The cartoon will tell regarding the duo’s trip to Ernest’s homeland – to the city, which is considered the home of the most talented musicians of our time. However, no one plays on the streets anymore – it turns out that the authorities have passed a ridiculous law prohibiting the performance of any tunes. Ernest and Celestine have no choice but to join the brewing resistance. “New Adventures” is an incredibly beautiful cartoon created in watercolor. And the picture also has a topical and very important message – regarding justice, unity and the fight once morest absurd rule.

Directed by: John Slattery

Tina Fey as Rita Grace in Maggie Moore(s)
Mad Men star John Slattery made his directorial debut nine long years ago with the crime drama God’s Pocket, where he managed to assemble a decent cast (Philip Seymour Hoffman, Richard Jenkins, Christina Hendricks and John Turturro). “Maggie Moore(s)” is Slattery’s second film: there are enough stars in the tape once more, but this time the audience is waiting for a comedy in the style of the Coen brothers. The picture tells regarding the sheriff of a provincial Arizona town (another Mad Men star is Jon Hamm), who, with a difference of several days, finds the bodies of two murdered women with the same name Maggie Moore. Despite the detective plot, Slattery’s film is more of a comedy regarding how the province attracts the most eccentric and strange people in the world. We recently saw something similar in the congenial series Detective High.
