New Mexico vs Utah State: Match preview and predictions for the Mountain West Championship quarter-finals

The No. 3 Utah State Aggies are on a five-game winning streak before facing the No. 6 New Mexico Lobos in the Mountain West Championship quarterfinals.

Utah State has won six straight once morest the Lobos, including an 11-point win last month. The Aggies are on fire, having covered in eight of their last ten games.

New Mexico, on the other hand, are only 3-7 in their last 10 games, thanks to a defense that gets punished inside. That said, the Lobos were impressive in their first-round win over Wyoming and hope to maintain that level of play today.

I see a clear interest in supporting either side and will explain that below, but let’s see the odds first.

New Mexico vs Utah State Cotes, Spread, et Total

New Mexico vs Utah State Prediction and Picks

The Aggies are a real freight train right now. They’ve covered the spread in five straight games averaging more than eight points per game. Although New Mexico is a threat, Utah State has several advantages that make me think they will once once more cover the spread.

It’s hard to see how the Lobos can keep the Aggies from scoring. Utah State has the eighth-best field goal percentage (56.3%) in the nation, thanks to the fifth-best three-point shooting percentage (39.2%). The Lobos are also great at inside defense, free throws and window control.

New Mexico is also strong offensively, but ranks 210th nationally in two-point shooting percentage once morest its opponents (50.9%). Unable to contain the Aggies’ inside offense in Game 1, the Lobos struggled with fouls, with Utah State shooting 27/31 from the free throw line.

While the Aggies won’t attempt as many free throws tonight, their advantage is considerable, especially considering their level of play.

Trust Utah State to earn a seventh straight victory in this series in convincing fashion by covering the modest gap.

The odds of the games are refreshed periodically and are subject to change.
