BETWEEN 5 AND 6 MINUTES TO GET ACROSS THE RIVER. RIGHT NOW THIS MORNING, RESULTS FROM THE 2023 LOCAL ELECTIONS ARE IN AND PEOPLE ACROSS NEW MEXICO VOTED IN CITY COUNCILOR, SCHOOL BOARD AND MAYORAL RACES. BUT WE START WITH THE FOUR ALBUQUERQUE CITY COUNCIL RACES WITH ALL OF THE RESULTS IN, IT LOOKS LIKE ONE IS GOING TO A RUNOFF. GENEVIEVE GLASS IS LIVE TO BREAK EVERYTHING DOWN FOR US. HEY, GENEVIEVE. HEY, TODD. YEAH, SO THAT IS DISTRICT SIX, WHICH COVERS NOB HILL AS WELL AS THE SOUTHEAST HEIGHTS. SO YOU CAN SEE HERE NICOLE ROGERS, SHE’S LEADING AT 40%, FOLLOWED BY JEFF HANE AND CHRISTINE GREEN, THE FOURTH CANDIDATE, ABEL OTERO, STOPPED CAMPAIGNING BEFORE THE RACE SINCE NO ONE GOT 50% OF THE VOTE, THIS WILL LIKELY GO INTO A RUNOFF NEXT MONTH. HERE ARE THE OTHER TWO WINNERS WHICH APPEAR HERE. THE OTHER TWO RACES WHICH WHICH APPEAR TO HAVE WINNERS IN DISTRICT TWO, JOAQUIN BACA LEADS WITH 51% OF THE VOTE AND INCUMBENT BROOKE WESSON HOLDS A NARROW LEAD IN DISTRICT FOUR. AND IN DISTRICT EIGHT, DAN CHAMPAGNE LEADS WITH 54% OF THE VOTE. ONCE WE HAVE ALL OF THE WINNERS DECLARED IN EACH RACE, WE WILL, OF COURSE, LET YOU KNOW. LIVE IN DOWNTOWN ALBUQUERQUE, I’M GENEVIEVE GLASS. KOAT ACTION SEVEN NEWS REPORTER ALYSSA MUNOZ CONTINUES OUR ELECTION TEAM COVERAGE HERE WITH A LOOK AT WHAT THE MAKEUP OF THE CITY COUNCIL LOOKS LIKE RIGHT NOW. WHILE THE CANDIDATES FOR LOCAL OFFICE OFFICIALLY RUN WITHOUT PARTY LABELS, BOTH DISTRICT FOUR AND DISTRICT EIGHT WERE THE MAIN FOCUS OF THE ELECTION BECAUSE OF THE POWER OF CONSERVATIVE SEATS ON THE COUNCIL AND THE DYNAMIC OF CITY COUNCIL. BEFORE THE ELECTION KEPT A BALANCE OF FOUR MODERATE LIBERALS IN FIVE CONSERVATIVES. OUR POLITICAL EXPERTS SAYS A COUNCIL TILTING SLIGHTLY AGAINST MAYOR TIM KELLER FORCED THE MAYOR TO HAVE MORE CONVERSATIONS WITH COUNCILORS TO PUSH FOR HIS AGENDA. THE MORE ALLIES THE MAYOR HAS, THE MORE LIKELY HE HAS TO ACCOMPLISH HIS AGENDA. NOW, LET’S SAY YOU HAVE A MAJORITY CONTROLLING THE CITY COUNCIL AS YOU DO NOW. THAT MIGHT EVEN STOP THE MAYOR FROM EVEN TRYING TO INTRODUCE CERTAIN THINGS BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE WON’T PULL THEM OFF. SO SOMETIMES IT’S WHAT HAS NOT BEEN INTRODUCED THAT MIGHT BE SIGNIFICANT. DISTRICT FOUR HAS COUNCILOR BROOK BASSAN SEEKING REELECTION, AND SHE’S BEEN A PART OF THE COUNCIL SINCE 2019 AND IS KNOWN AS A MODERATE REPUBLICAN. DISTRICT EIGHT WILL HAVE SOMEBODY BRAND NEW REPORTING IN ALBUQUERQUE. ALYSSA MUNOZ, KOAT ACTION SEVEN NEWS. WELL, THREE ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD SEATS WERE ALSO UP FOR GRABS. AND WITH ALL OF THE RESULTS IN, JANELLE ASTORGA HOLDS THE LEAD IN DISTRICT ONE OVER ROBERT TRUJILLO AND VERLIN COKER WITH 49% OF THE VOTES. THE DISTRICT COVERS THE SOUTH VALLEY IN DISTRICT TWO. REYNALDO TOMÉ HAS A SLIGHT LEAD OVER INCUMBENT PEGGY MULLER-ARAGON. TOMÉ HAS 42% OF THE VOTES, WHILE MULLER-ARAGON HAS 40%, AND DISTRICT TWO INCLUDES NORTHWEST, ALBUQUERQUE, WEST OF THE RIO GRANDE. HEATHER BENAVIDEZ HAS THE BIGGEST LEAD OUT OF THE THREE RACES. 83% OF THE VOTES FOR DISTRICT FOUR. THE OTHER CANDIDATE IN THE RACE, STEVEN CHICO, HAS 18%. THIS DISTRICT COVERS A SECTION OF ALBUQUERQUE THAT’S EAST OF I-25. THERE WERE ALSO RACES ALL OVER THE STATE, INCLUDING A VERY CLOSE MAYO
