Albuquerque

  • Feb. 23 UNM Greek Sing – The annual keynote event of Greek WEek will feature skits, dances, and parody performances of Broadway musicals. All proceeds go to benefit the Lobo Food Pantry. Begins at 6:00 p.m. and tickets are $16.50.
  • Feb. 23 UNM Art Museum opening reception – Celebrate the opening of “Hindsight Insight 4.0: Portraits, Landscapes, and Abstraction from the UNM Art Museum.” From 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Feb. 23-24 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show. Every Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.
  • Feb. 23-24 Annual Rummage Sale – The sale benefits the Council of Albuquerque Garden Clubs.
  • Feb. 24Auditions for The 39 Steps – Auditions will be held at the Albuquerque Little Theater from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Strong need for adult actors for this production.
  • Feb. 24 Love Weld Makers Market – Love Weld is turning four with an ensemble of local, female-owned brands. Event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Feb. 24-25 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.
  • Feb. 25 Yoga & Tea – The second and last Sunday of every month, Lost Cultures Tea Bar hosts this event from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Feb. 25 Food & Flower Bestie Brunch – This buffet-style event will have French toast sticks, waffles, and avocado toast stations. The event begins at 11:00 a.m.
  • Feb. 29 Leap Year at the Historic Lobo Theater – Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the film begins at 7:00 p.m.

New Mexico

  • Feb. 23 Judith Hill at the Lensic – Singer Judith Hill will perform at the Lensic on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $30-$55.
  • Feb. 23 ‘Raven Chacon: Three Songs’ Opening Celebration – The reception will be held at the Harwood Museum of Art from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Chacon’s Three Songs bring together three of his projects that pay tribute to Indigenous women through sound, video, and visual work. The event is free.
  • Feb. 24 Saturday Farmers Market – The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Saturdays in the heart of the Santa Fe Railyard.
  • Feb. 24 3rd Annual Los Ranchos Matanza – The Matanza will be February 24, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Agri-Nature Center in Los Ranchos.
  • Feb. 24 Masterworks: Bach, Mendelssohn & Haydn – This performance from the Roswell Symphony Orchestra will take place at the Pearson Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
  • Feb. 24 “History & Haunts” Ghosts of Old Mesilla – This ghost tour will take place in Mesilla Plaza starting at 7:00 p.m.
  • Feb. 24-25 Dog Film Festival – The medley of animated, documentary, and narrative films with a canine theme begins at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Violet Crown in Santa Fe.
  • Feb. 25 Sunday Chess Club – Popolo’s Games in Taos will host this free chess club open to all ages beginning at 1:00 p.m.
  • Feb. 25 Yeti Fest – At 10:00 a.m., the Ruidoso Winter Park will host this free event with games, live music, and a Yeti Egg Hunt.
  • Feb. 25 Elias Quartet – Pieces from composers Haydyn, Stravinsky, and Beethoven will be performed at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Francis Auditorium in the NM Museum of Art in Santa Fe.

🔶 APD Chief speaks on what led up to his crash on east Central – It happened while he was on his way to a news conference addressing crime on east Central and that’s when he found himself experiencing that very problem up close.

🔶 Albuquerque BioPark hosting special sensory-friendly night – The Albuquerque BioPark is hosting a sensory-friendly night on Friday, March 8 at the aquarium from 5:30 – 8 p.m. Tickets are limited and will be $5 per ticket. Alex Reeds can enjoy a night of sensory-friendly activities including, a map, special crafts a a quiet room, and a sensory-friendly kit that guests can check out.

🔶 Blue Cross Blue Shield breaks ground on neighborhood center – Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico is opening a neighborhood center in Albuquerque which they say is a place where people can learn more regarding their health, local healthcare resources, and other needs specific to the community.

🔶 ABQ BioPark mourns the death of Sumatran orangutan – Tonka, at 44 years old, was the second oldest male orangutan in the United States. The BioPark says it was the humane decision to euthanize Tonka last Friday following his six-year-long battle with kidney disease.

🔶 Explora hosting popular Science of Wine night – Explora is hosting its “Science of Wine” event from 6 – 10:30 p.m. on February 23. Tasting stations throughout the museum give guests a chance to sample local wines.

🔶 Security video shows fire at laundromat caused by homeless campfire – A new video Tuesday night shows how the fire may have started. It started early Sunday morning and took hours to extinguish.

🔶 City of Albuquerque looking to align with 500-mile Rio Grande Trail project – It was an idea mainly kickstarted by the legislature in 2015 under Governor Susana Martinez: a roughly 500-mile trail from Colorado to Texas that might draw tourists and outdoor adventurers alike. Now, with nearly a decade behind it: how far along is this trail?

🔶 Phase two complete at Mesa Del Sol Sports Complex – The artificial turf fields mark the completion of phase two of the complex. The plan is for 32 fields to be built, using both grass and artificial turf. Plans also include the addition of bathrooms, food-truck hookups, shade structures, access roads, parking, re-use water infrastructure, and improved lighting.

🔶 Construction on I-25 at La Bajada is expected to resume this month – As of Tuesday, crews are set to restart construction on Feb. 26, with tentative completion in late May or early June. NMDOT said crews paused work in mid-December due to colder temperatures.

🔶 Motion filed for Santa Fe Archdiocese to release names of accused sexual abusers – A sexual abuse survivor has filed a motion once morest the Santa Fe Archdiocese, claiming they are not honoring a promise made to abuse survivors over a year ago. The victim is calling for the church to release the names of all the accused abusers on its website – a condition that was part of the Archdiocese’s exit from bankruptcy proceedings.

🔶 New Mexico-based researchers discover new species of giant anaconda – Researchers from New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) have discovered that the Northern Green Anaconda is a separate, newly recognized species of anaconda in South America. The researchers published their findings in the scientific journal, MDPI Diversity.

🔶 Report: Santa Fe has reduced municipal emissions – In 2018, the city set out to reduce emissions and reach carbon neutrality for government functions by 2040. So far, the city has reduced emissions by nearly 39%.

🔶 First case of hantavirus for 2024 confirmed in New Mexico – The DOH says the San Juan County man who contracted the disease has been released from the hospital and is home recovering.

🔶 Lawmakers approved three election-related bills in 2024 – Lawmakers passed Senate Bill 108a bill that allows for a transfer of money from the state’s general-use fund to the state’s election fund. House Bill 182 aims to boost transparency around the use of artificial intelligence. Senate Bill 5 focuses on keeping unauthorized guns away from active polling places.

🔶 New Mexico looking for contractors to help with tax prep – New Mexico’s Taxation and Revenue Department is looking for contractors to provide income tax help for New Mexicans in need. Contractors need to respond to the RFP by 3:00 p.m. on March 12. Finalists for the work will be selected by March 15.

🔶 Sandoval County expands effort to clean illegally dumped trash – A pilot program to help clean up right-of-ways in Sandoval County’s District 4 is expanding to cover the entire county. The program is funded by landfill fees.

🔶 New Mexico’s 7th baby box installed in Farmington – City and religious leaders in Farmington came out Tuesday followingnoon to bless the state’s newest baby box. The boxes are installed as a safe place for parents to anonymously surrender their newborns.

🔶 Laser range finder technology tested at Spaceport America – As SpaceX and Intuitive Machines are ready for the launch of the IM-1 mission, the lunar lander, Nova-C, features technology that was tested at Spaceport America.
